A PARTICIPATORY EXHIBITION OF PERSONAL STORIES OF THE COLLECTIVE MEMORY OF PLAYING

The Toy Museum of Catalonia presents this exhibition based on the idea of Petra Vlasman and in collaboration with this artist, who conceives art as a space for expression, meeting and social participation. In her work, objects and toys play a role in creating unusual still lifes.

The objects around us are an intrinsic part of our lives. They live with us, are our silent companions, and we often associate them with experiences that have had a major impact on our lives. Thus, objects can serve us to evoke memories and lived experiences.

Important experiences during the different stages of our lives are the moments of experiential learning, in which play plays a key role. Play is a universal activity that has always been present in all cultures, and the only cultural activity in which the person is the protagonist. For this reason, the memory of playing can evoke various feelings and experiences that have helped shape us as people.

67 PEOPLE SHARED THEIR MEMORIES OF THE EXPERIENCES AND FEELINGS THAT THE TOYS AWAKEN THEM

‘LET’S PLAY?’ Is a participatory project aimed at recovering the collective memory of playing through the toys of the 67 people who have collaborated and who have shared their memories of the experiences and feelings that awaken them. Each contribution reveals to us the special significance that each toy has for each person and, at the same time, encourages us to recover our own memories.
