HIGHLIGHTING DIVERSITY

The city council of Figueres asked Petra Vlasman in 2013 to collaborate with several groups of people from the town and decide together with them how to make their portrait.

Each group chose the place where they wanted to be photographed and the universal value with which they felt most identified.

The exhibition of 12 photos aimed to visualize the different forms of diversity in the town: cultural diversity, racial diversity, religious diversity, age diversity, sex/gender diversity, sexual orientation and abilities/disabilities.

Each photograph is made when darkness set in, with a shutter time of 30 seconds and a flashlight. During the 30 seconds, the people photographed could move light swords and flash lights. Petra made a stencil for each word and painted the letters with light.
